In order to create an environment with a strong focus on education, a state-of-the-art clinical skills lab is highly recommended as part of an Expansion or Early Recruitment partnership. This lab would be located on the hospital campus complete with technology and equipment used in the hospital for patient care. Replicas of standard, pediatric and/or critical care patient rooms will house human simulators, providing an innovative learning environment for students and staff to practice clinical and critical thinking skills. The California Board of Registered Nurses currently allows up to 25% of clinical education to occur on simulators. Having an on-site lab can expand a hospital’s clinical site capacity, which is especially important for low census specialties such as pediatrics. In addition to nursing education, the clinical skills lab can be used by the hospital for physician education, orientation, pre-employment assessments, clinical specialty education and remediation of current staff. If desired, the hospital can rent space in the lab to private schools and educators, thus generating revenue. When students and staff are given the opportunity to practice new skills on simulators without fear of harming a real person, the result is increased self-confidence, which ultimately leads to competence. Contact Us for more information on how to develop a state-of-the-art clinical skills lab for your hospital. |
